Spanish congressman of Podemos charged the Ecuadorian government 4,600 euros per month
He used to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as undersecretary of Africa, Asia and Oceania, with a monthly salary of 4,600 euros. Between January and July 2015 he received a total of 32,000 euros. This is the Spanish MEP Jose Maria Guijarro, of the “Podemos” party, a leftist political organization led by Pablo Iglesias.
It should be noted that the Ecuadorian unified basic salary (called in Spain interprofessional minimum wage) is 354 US dollars or 318 euros. Ie, the Podemos congressman was earning 14 times more than the average professional salary in Ecuador.
Jose Maria Guijarro would have begun in March 2010 as a political adviser to the Coordinating Ministry of Politics.
Guijarro had previously worked alongside Salvadoran Mauricio Funes, of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front. He advised Chilean radical left candidate Marco Enriquez-Ominami, supported by the Ecological Party and the Humanist Party. From August to November 2009 he served as coordinator of the Social Analysis and Research Unit of the Government of Hugo Chavez
