Steps to apply for the Mexican visa in Ecuador

The Embassy of Mexico in Ecuador informed through a statement that, as of Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 5,000 ordinary appointments were enabled for citizens interested in processing the Mexican visa.

Ecuadorians may request one of the shifts available for July, August and September 2023 on the official website of the consular entity.

Steps to obtain a visa appointment

1. Access the direct booking portal for appointments: citas.sre.gob.mx or enter the page of the Embassy of Mexico in Ecuador: embamex.sre.gob.mx/ecuador.
   
   • If you do so by the second option, you must advance in the following options: Consular services, Services for foreigners, Link for appointments.
2. Enter the previously created
   username and password.
   • If you do not have these data, the user must create a new account on the portal. To do this, you must click on Create account and fill in the corresponding information that includes nationality, email and telephone number.
   • The password must include at least one capital letter and one number.
3. Select the Appointments for Embassies and Consulates option .

Once the consular appointment is confirmed, the applicant must appear at the embassy 10 minutes before the scheduled time with the documents that each type of visa requires.

Ecuadorians who require an extraordinary visa appointment can request it in case of proven emergency in the Extraordinary shifts section of the same web portal.

In this case, a Google form must be filled out detailing the applicant’s personal data as the reason for the emerging trip.

Visa documents

There are five types of visas that the Embassy of Mexico in Ecuador issues, among them:

1. tourist visa
2. Student Temporary Resident Visa
3. Temporary resident visa
4. Temporary resident visa for job offer
5. Permanent resident visa

Each category has its own documentation to comply with, which is detailed on the entity’s official website.

In the tourist visa, the procedure most requested by citizens, the following must be presented, for example:

• Visa application form
• Passport
• Accreditation of legal stay in Ecuador
• Payment of 51 dollars for processing fees
• Documents that support economic solvency

The consular institution recommends that citizens not buy tickets  in advance while they do not have visa approval.

Mexico requires a visa for Ecuadorians as of September 4, 2021 after verifying that seven out of 10 compatriots who travel there do not return .

“When detecting that seven out of 10 people were in this situation, with an improper use of this facility, the decision was made that is temporary, since it allows us to take measures in favor of achieving safe and regular migratory flows,” he said at the time, Roberto Canseco, head of the Foreign Ministry of the embassy in Quito.
