Students of the Espol invent with pineapples and algae new products
Ecuadornews:

The students of the audits and management of control, economics, industrial engineering that receive the transversal subject of Biology presented 20 projects in the framework of the fifth edition of Expo B.I.DA (Biology, Research, Development and Application).
Two of them were chosen as the winners in the conferences and stands category. During the day, students from 10 educational establishments were invited. The Polytechnics Ninoska Rugel, Verónica Conforme, Andreína Cayambe, María Sol Galarza and Katherine Garzón obtained the first place with the production of organic paper from cellulosic fibers of pineapple.
Ninoska explained that they made several prototypes in which they used the peel and fruit leaves until they finally got the material with the pulp. “We realized the need to create ecological products that help the environment. From several pineapples we can create bottle corks, picture frames, pencils and even small bags “.
Also, Sheyla Burgos and Ariana Rendón received recognition for their project focused on the development of a biofertilizer from seaweed. Ariana said that the algae are extracted from the beaches of Salinas.
“We did several tests with beans and cucumber seeds to analyze their growth. To the days we obtained results “. The biologist José Flores guided them in the development of the organic and ecological product. “This will allow farmers to reduce the use of chemicals and increase their potential in crops.”
Another of the inventions that attracted the attention of the school students was the prototype of a garbage collector, algae jams and another of aloe, the carrot sunblock and the cicratizing bandit based on nopales. Diana Paredes and Braulio Ocando, industrial and civil engineering, explained that the homemade jam has apple and 65% aloe vera that is characterized by being medicinal. “Our product has no preservatives and is beneficial to the digestive system.” (I)
