Syria Accepts April 10 Deadline on Crisis
Posted On 02 Apr 2012
Syrian president Bashar al-Assad agreed to April 10 deadline to start implementing a peace plan proposed by UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan. The envoy has already informed the UN Security Council about the decision.
The partial implementation of his plan would include the full cessation of hostilities within 48-hours of the deadline. Annan appealed to the 15-member council to support the deadline.
Now the Syrian government will stop the movement of troops into cities, and withdraw heavy weapons from cities and start to pull back troops. Annan informed that the Security Council is considering the deployment of an observer mission to monitor the events in Syria. (AV)
