Suicide wave in Tulcan

The suicides of three teenagers, and the possibility that at least 16 minors between 14 and 17 years made a suicide pact causes commotion among the population, health authorities and police Carchi.

Last Friday in Tulcan high schools students marched through the city, “for life and rejection of suicide” after a third teenager committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself with a scarf, just like other two minors did it in the past four months.

Although it has not been confirmed, the authorities suspect that at least 16 teenagers have made a pact to commit suicide, without being able to specify the reasons or the others involved, this has caused distress to parents and relatives, even more so after of a letter was found in the tomb of one suicides carrying threats, confirming an alleged commitment to kill themselves and signed with the initials of those involved.

It is speculated that the reasons could be from abuse in schools, the influence of youth groups self-styled Death and Virgen de Guadalupe, depression, drug abuse, domestic violence or bullying, among others.

It was learned that the City Board of Childhood located a minor that would be on the list of girls that are going to take their life and is now receiving psychological help.
