Telethon and ECUAQUEM Work Together to Help Burnt Children
This Saturday, November 3 of 2011, ‘Unidad para Niños Quemados’ will open their doors to the public thanks to the funds gathered by Teleton 2010.
So far the surgical intervention to people with different types of body burns has been possible in Ecuador, but the rehabilitation of these kinds of patients is a forgotten subject.
However on the next Saturday the first centre for rehabilitation for ‘burnt’ children will start operation on a national level.
‘Unidad para Niños Quemados’ with the help of “ECUAQUEM” is a joint initiative of Dr. Priscilla Alcócer and her husband, Dr. Carlos Marquez.
‘ECUAQUEM’, a private non-profit foundation that has sharing medical, psychological attention as well as rehabilitation for children with severe burns and their sequels.
The facilities of this first stage include a pharmacy, a healing room, doctor’s office and an emergency room. The second phase pretends to make an operating room and a room for rehabilitation. (AV)
