The Andean world celebrates the Sun
Communities like Cotacachi, Otavalo, Cayambe, Salasaca, Cañar and many others in the Andean region of Ecuador and America, initiated the Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun, which ends tomorrow.
With rituals, dances, songs and music, communities thank the Sun and the crops. The party, is also an important tourist attraction that mobilizes resources and creates sources of income in the locations of the celebration.
The most visited sites are the archaeological complex of the Guantug square and the Narrio Hill, both in the canton Canear, where the reference of the celebration is the corn. Ingapirca complex is dominated by the presentation of national and international groups.
In Cotacachi, Imbabura, there are ancestral dances; Salasaca, Tungurahua, the ritual includes food, especially grains, which, after the perfomances, are shared among all.
This morning, in the Cuicocha lagoon is performed the ritual bath which is part of ancestral customs; and in Salasaca, tonight will be the election and Coronation of the Princess (Queen) of the parish.
