The government changed several ministers
Rafael Correa’s government has confirmed the appointment of Fausto Herrera as the new finance minister, occupying position previously owned by Patricio Rivera, who will now become the new head of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Policy, and Pedro Merizalde will replace Wilson Pastor in the portfolio of the Non-Renewable Resources Ministry. Fernando Cordero, current president of the National Assembly, will direct the Board of the Social Security Institute (IESS for its Spanish acronym) instead of Ramiro Gonzalez, whose new role could be that of Minister of Industry.
The changes will continue, as announced by the President, within the government plan for its new period which will officially begin on May 14.
In addition, changes in two portfolios have already been formalized by decree: Richard Espinosa in the Coordinating Ministry of Production and Cecilia Vacas in the Coordination Ministry of Social Development.
Yesterday, presidential legal secretary, Alexis Mera, said that new appointments will be made in the coming days, before May 15.
