The Government delivered 10,500 protective vests to the National Police

The Government of President Daniel Noboa delivered, this June 6, 2024, 10,500 new ballistic protection vests to the National Police. The ceremony to make this assignment official was held at the Cuartel Modelo de Guayaquil, in the province of Guayas.

So far in 2024, more than 200 police officers have been injured. Eight have died, reported the General Command of the National Police.

The institution expressed that with these implements for police officers the fight against crime and terrorism , which is promoted by the current Regime, will be strengthened. These garments will be used by the preventive axis of the National Police of Guayaquil, Samborondón and Durán (Zone 8).

Daniel Noboa, President of the Republic, expressed that the 10,5000 vests delivered are of “very high ballistic resistance” to safeguard the integrity of the police officers. At this event, the Head of State ratified the Government’s support for the work carried out by the uniformed personnel.

In addition, the President pointed out that operations and intelligence tasks will be strengthened and security forces will continue to be equipped with the purpose of “returning peace” to Ecuadorians.

In his speech, César Augusto Zapata, General Commander of the National Police, expressed that these types of implements “save lives.” He recalled that yesterday (June 5, 2024), while carrying out an intervention at dawn, a police officer from the Special Operations Group (GOE) was shot. “ One of these vests saved his life. He only had bruises and was taken to a hospital.”

In addition, Zapata mentioned that so far in 2024, more than 200 police officers have been injured in the performance of their duties. Eight have died.

Mónica Palencia, Minister of the Interior, mentioned that new deliveries of implements for police officers are planned. In addition, she emphasized that the self-purification and anti-corruption fight project will continue.
