A delegation of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) today addressed the situation of freedom of expression on the continent at the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, informed through his Twitter account of his “dialogue” with the members of the IAPA on “the situation of freedom of expression in the region and the work of the OAS and the IACHR protecting it.”
“Protecting the free work of journalists is critical for freedom of expression, the very foundation of democracy,” Almagro said.
The Panama vice president of the Committee on Freedom of Press and Information of the IAPA and president of La Estrella and El Siglo groups, Eduardo Quiros, also referred to the meeting in his account of the social network.
“Bringing the @EstrellaOnline and @elsiglodigital cases to the secretary general of @OEA_oficisl crucial. He is a great fighter for #FreedomOfExpression,” wrote Quiros.
