The legislature refuses to condemn North Korea’s nuclear test

Ecuadornews:
The Ecuadorian Legislature did not approve a motion to condemn North Korea’s nuclear tests. The proposal, submitted by Fernando Burbano, of the CREO Party, obtained 54 votes in favor, 44 against and 24 abstentions, a reason why it was not approved by not reaching a majority.
The position in favor of North Korea was led by the Alianza PARIS ruling party. Legislator Doris Soliz (AP) called for “the debate on nuclear tests is carried out integrally, without ideological bias,” and voted against the condemnation motion. Marcela Aguiñaga, Augusto Espinoza, and María José Carrión also voted against the proposal.
The vice president of the Legislature Viviana Bonilla, who presided over the session, abstained. The Chancellery of Ecuador, led by Minister María Fernanda Espinosa, has also remained silent on the subject.
Nuclear attacks put global security at risk. Any act that entails the loss of human life must be condemned. The lawmakers of the Alianza Party Party apparently have not meditated on the current events. They support communism but shop in capitalist empires. They promote equality but live in elitist neighborhoods, and wear Chanel. Their fortunes were acquired dubiously during the previous government. A situation similar to that of Venezuela. (I)
