The police organized operations to find Vinicio Alvarado

The police formed search blocks throughout the country to find the former Minister of Tourism and former Secretary of the Administration, Vinicio Alvarado, who is being investigated for alleged concussion, as well as the former officials of the Correismo, Alexis Mera and María de los Angeles Duarte.

The last two were arrested in Guayaquil last Friday (May 31, 2019). Then they were transferred to Quito. In a hearing, in the National Court they were prosecuted for that offense that is punishable by imprisonment for three to five years.

On Thursday, May 30, 2019, prosecutor Ruth Amoroso submitted documents to the Attorney General’s Office to open a preliminary investigation against Mera, Duarte and Alvarado.

Therefore, Attorney General Diana Salazar ordered that proceedings be carried out, including raids on buildings, and requested the National Court to arrest the three suspects for investigative purposes.

A Mera, Judge Daniella Camacho ordered him to be remanded in custody and is currently being held in Prison 4 in Quito. In contrast, Duarte must use an electronic shackle, is prohibited from leaving the country and must periodically appear before a judicial authority. According to the Attorney General, Diana Salazar, Mera and Duarte “abused” their power and also said that from their public positions they “demanded” economic contributions from representatives of companies, such as Odebrecht, in exchange for guaranteeing contracts with the State.
