The Pope officiated his first angelus with the support of thousands of parishioners
Yesterday Pope Francisco won the hearts of more than 300,000 parishioners who gathered in the St. Pedro Square to pray the angelus, on the fifth Sunday of lent.
Before the prayer he greeted everyone with a ‘good morning’, and when he said goodbye se wished all a “nice lunch and good Sunday”, which caused the applause from all attendees.
Prior to the angelus, Francisco celebrated a mass in a small church of the Vatican and took the opportunity to personally greet the hundreds of people who gathered shouting “long live the Pope!”.
Loud applause, blazing and living flags accompanied the Supreme Pontiff in his first angelus. “Is not that I want to make advertise the Cardinals, huh?”, said the Pope after commenting that He was reading “Mercy”, by Cardinal Kasper.
Referring to his great sense of humor, sister Luisa, a young Chilean religious, explained that long ago people needed a Pope with a different charisma, convinced that Francisco will attract young people who said are “the power of the Church”
Once again, breaking the Protocol, the Pope approached to the barriers that mark the border of the Vatican and greeted the faithful, including many Latin Americans, who screamed with excitement “Francisco, Francisco!”.
At the end of the angelus, Francisco thanked the founder of the Liceo Jubilar John Paul II of Uruguay his work to educate teenagers of the street.
