The turn of Eliseo, two years after his viral phrase “Harta demencia”

Posted On 12 Sep 2018

Ecuadornews:

He did not recognize it immediately, but as soon as he did he extended his hand, congratulating him, wishing him to move forward in his change of life.

Jony Guerrero, owner of a broiler of chickens in the Casuarina Avenue, in the entrance to the cooperative Balerio Estacio, was pleased to see Joel Eliseo Duarte, 22 years old, neat, but more than that, sober, without evidence that I was under the effects of the drug, as I used to see it in this area of northwest Guayaquil.

“He came to buy me 25 cents of fries, I gave him with aguado,” said Jony about the diner who undergoes a rehabilitation process to stop drinking.

Joel Eliseo appears in a video that these days went viral by the phrase “Harta demencia”, said to expose his aspiration to be a policeman of the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR), when he was interviewed by José Delgado for his channel of Youtube.

The young man recalled that in that interview recorded two years ago he had asked the journalist to buy bread and cola, that he and his friends had used drugs and were hungry, that he responded thinking that he would then get a bite.

He evoked that in those days he wandered in the entrance of the 8, slept in the street, assaulted, fought, and stole cosmetics from his mother’s house …, all to satiate his vice.

It was Monica Calero, who one afternoon came to him crying and asking him if he was willing to give up the habit, proposing to go to a rehabilitation space in the same Balerio Estacio, which had been given good references.

Thus, Joel Eliseo joined the project Amor y Vida, directed by Adrián Gortaire, who also has a past with drugs.

“We are a network, we have doctors, psychologists, nurses, therapists. Here (in Balerio Estacio) we have rescued many children; there in that park they smoked marijuana, now they play sports, “said Adrián.

He said they started as a shelter, providing food, talks, then had demand for beds, which had to accept that some young people stay to sleep because if they let them go, “surely they were going to consume.”

Joel Eliseo, for the progress in his rehabilitation and popularity, collaborates with his testimony and offers counseling to the 18 young people who fight to stop the vice of drugs.

The Love and Life project takes place in a one-story house, where the children receive counseling from professionals, study passages of the Bible, collaborate in the preparation of food.

“As we are a network, we buy food wholesale to make it more economical and we share, we also have a skirt in the yard to lower costs,” said Adrián and noted that he is seeking legal status for his space.

Entities that have offered work to Joel Eliseo have also committed support for the house, which was going to receive a computer and other supplies yesterday. To him, bachelor in Automotive Mechanics, have proposed to sell processed foods, computer inputs. And he does not rule out running for a GIR police officer.

Personal

Joel Eliseo Duarte Calero is part of the Amor y Vida project, which helps consumers to stop using drugs. On weekends she leaves the foster home and goes to the home of her parents, Francisco Duarte, master painter and car straightener, and Monica Calero, cosmetics saleswoman. With them lives his partner, Marina Medina, mother of two children. Her wish is to marry him this year.

“This change is life-long, because every day we have a question and God gives us the answer. I asked: God when will you get me out of here, he answered me through my mother”   consumer in the process of rehabilitation. (I)
