The unemployment insurance should be evaluated in 5 years

Despite the observations of the opposition, entrepreneurs, and social groups, labor reform proposal of the Executive will arrive today with minor changes to the second debate of the Assembly. The text denounced his critics, it is not backed by studies demonstrating sustainability.

Of the three reforms that have generated more discussion, only one has an actuarial study of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS): the unemployment insurance. Even that initiative, which will replace the current system, have oppositors.

According to the document that was given by the IESS, delivered to the Commission on Worker Rights, the new insurance method can be sustained even with an unemployment rate of 9.9%. More than double the current figure (4.8%). The study says that the conditions laid down in the law are sufficient to provide stability. That is, that 1% of the employer contribution sufficient to maintain the benefit. Of course, insurance will have to enter revision in the short term. (I)
