The US donated protection and technology equipment to the Ecuadorian Army
The United States donated this Friday, September 16, to Ecuador military equipment worth $730,000 for the control of the Amazon area near the northern border with Colombia, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Quito.
The delivery consisted of 180 protective vests with helmets and ballistic protection plates, 180 tactical kits, 35 GPS devices, twelve thermal cameras, spare parts, support equipment for weapons and two cargo vans, in addition to night vision equipment that will be delivered later.
This material was donated by the Security Cooperation Office of the United States Embassy to the Jungle Brigade 19 “Napo” of the Ecuadorian Army, located in the province of Orellana.
The commander of the United States Southern Command, Laura Richardson, who is visiting Ecuador to meet with authorities and participate in the South American Defense Conference (Southsec), which was held for the first time in Quito, participated in the delivery ceremony.
Along with Richardson was the United States ambassador to Ecuador, Michael J. Fitzpatrick, who pointed out that “this delivery of equipment will help the 19th Brigade to continue responding to the dangers they face.”
