Thousands of People Protest in Cairo Calling for Reforms
Thousands of people gathered Friday in Tahrir Square in Cairo to ask the army in power to comply with its promises of reform and democratization, seven months after the fall of President Hosni Mubarak.
“There has been no request for the revolution,” argued one protester, Ibrahim Ali, an agricultural technician for 38 years originally from Beheira (north).
“It would be unworthy of the Egyptian people forget the promises of the revolution,” said a priest in charge of holding the traditional Muslim Friday prayers in the square.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page before the demonstration, the Army recognized the “right to demonstrate peacefully,” but warned they would respond to any act of violence “with the greatest severity and greater determination.”
