Three children died after landslide in Esmeraldas

A landslide occurred on the afternoon ofTuesday, November 6, on the banks of the river in the Isla Luis Vargas Torressector of Esmeraldas canton. The accident left three children dead. The victimswere 7, 8 and 11 years old and two of them were brothers.
A group of infants was playing in the place whenthey were surprised by the avalanche. The police report indicates that fourminors were trapped. One was rescued alive and transferred to a health home,where it remains stable.
“When the river is low, there is a kind ofbeach on the bottom. The children were sitting there when the earth fell onthem, “said one witness. “There were many children, only the rumble washeard, then the boys started asking for help and all the residents arrived.
The woman said that her son was playingwith the group but she had called him minutes before. That’s why he was saved.The rescue lasted about half an hour. The community asked for help tocollaborate with the mother of the two deceased brothers, who has no work orresources for burial expenses. (I)
