Three Days of Mourning for Deaths in Clash
President Rafael Correa declared three days of national mourning this Friday, due to deaths in the crossfire between Ecuadorian Armed Forces and the National Police.
Interior Minister Gustavo Jalkh, who confirmed the death of two soldiers, a policeman and a college student, announced this.
“Four people were killed due to this senseless violence caused by a bunch of fools and the President has declared three days of national mourning in these circumstances,” he said.
As for the wounded, David Chiriboga (Health Minister) said a total of 193 injured people were treated in Quito hospitals, 132 had minor injuries, while 43 had moderate wounds, 16 were severely injured and 6 patients are in the intensive care unit.
Ecuadorian Red Cross published a statement on its website in which it mentions the attendance of 88 emergencies around the country and 82 in Pichincha.
