Hugo Chavez and Henrique Capriles

Considered one of the most tough elections in recent years, and after three months of hard-fought campaign, today Venezuela votes for the person who will govern the country for the next six years.

President Hugo Chavez and opposition candidate Henrique Capriles depend on the vote of the Venezuelan people, who are voting since 06:00 am, standing in long lines to exercise the right to vote at the polling stations.

“Blessed you, October 7th.. We’ll write another page of history upon your hours!” Was the most effusive Chavez’s message through his Twitter account @chavezcandanga.

On the other hand, Capriles also addressed his supporters in a message via Twitter: “@hcapriles: May God bless each of you, your families, our Venezuela! Long live the Venezuela that today expresses itself! I love you. Today we decide the future of our country, everybody go and vote thinking that we can and will be better, vote for you. ”

Election officials announced that the polls will close at 18:00, but in those where there are still people waiting to vote, the center will remain open.
