Transitional National Electoral Council will extend its functions
Ecuadornews:

The five transitory advisors of the National Electoral Council will extend their term of office for another three or four weeks, while the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPC) in transition chooses their final replacements.
On October 7, the 60-day period ended, for which the CPC designated them as transitory, but in total they will accumulate 90 days, until the final National Electoral Council is designated.
On Tuesday afternoon, the members of the National Electoral Council delivered a report of work to the plenary of the CPC, in a meeting reserved in the office of the president, Julio César Trujillo.
In the end, Gustavo Vega, president of the electoral body, confirmed that they were ‘invited’ to continue in office until the final officials are elected.
“We will respect the work civically. And we will continue intensively until we can deliver the post to the elect, “said Vega.
The National Electoral Council is conducting the selection contest for the candidates to be a member of the definitive CPC, and among those registered is the city councilor Luis Macas. This despite the fact that annex three of the popular consultation approved on 4 February prohibits the current members to participate.
Macas evaded the press when he was asked to ask about his registration. However, it was learned that it is covered in a subsection of numeral 8 of the instructions to designate the CPC, which does not prohibit the participation of “councilors, members of parish councils and of the councilors of the Participation Council that apply for re-election”.
But Gustavo Vega said that it will be the Verification Commission of the National Electoral Council that will analyze and verify if the 201 contestants meet the requirements.
Meanwhile, the plenary session of the Participation Council decided to accept requests to review the nominations of six candidates who aspire to reach the National Electoral Council; and accepted ‘partially’ the review resources of seven other citizens.
The nominations of Danilo Sylva and Sebastián Espinosa were also qualified to the Superintendence of Market Power Control, for which they will face the stage of citizen challenge.
Anabel Salazar, of the shortlist sent by the Executive Function, was disqualified because she did not fulfill requirements. (I)
