Given the rumors, the Association of Tuna Businessmen of Ecuador (Atunec), the Manta Port Authority, the Harbor Master and the Undersecretariat of Fishery Resources yesterday called reporters to make an official denial and calm down the population.

“We must clarify the non-existence of such deaths, epidemic, or the alleged African ship into quarantine near the coast of Manta. This is an absolute lie that is doing so much damage to the fisheries sector, the city and the country,” said Luigi Benincasa, executive at Atunec.

The businessman added they will file a complaint to the Attorney General´s office of Manta to investigate the origin of these rumors those who are spreading it will be called to explain the reasons.
