Tungurahua volcano increases its activity
Marco Almeida, technical of the Geophysical Institute (GI) at the Guadalupe Observatory, reported that between Saturday and Sunday the Tungurahua volcano registered episodes of strong tremor (earthquake caused by eruptive volcanoes ), as a result of the emission of ash and incandescent rocks, because of this the activity is considered as moderate to high.
Almeida said that there is no evidence that the activity will decrease, since according to the monitoring signals, the Tungurahua volcano is active at the moment.
Because of this, the authorities decided to move the point of monitoring that the national police had in the sector of “Los Pajaros” to the exit of the bridge of Las Juntas, in the road pelileo-banos, with the objective of closing the vehicle crossing, if needed, in the case of possible land-slides through the Juive grande creek towards the road.
So far the activities in the canton Baños are developing normally, and the routes that connect it with the Amazon and Ambato are free for vehicular traffic. The eruptive process remains as a tourist attraction in the area.
