Turkish mine blast leaves 238 dead so far
The corpses rescued from the univen mine, yesterday (Tuesday, May 13) in western Turkey, already rise to 238, while others 120 miners may still be trapped, according to advanced data given today today by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who promised to investigate the incident.
Erdogan, who has traveled today to Soma, in the province of Manisa, announced that the incident will be investigated to the smallest details.
“All necessary measures will be taken,” Erdogan said, after declaring that occupational accidents are “normal”, but this “has affected us deeply.”
The accident occurred about 200 meters deep due to the fire originated from the explosion of an electrical transformer in the coal mine, and the main cause of death was inhalation of carbon monoxide, which in turn has hampered the rescue works.
