Twitter and IMB negotiate patents and licenses
Posted On 31 Jan 2014
Twitter acquired 900 patents and signed an agreement of bilateral licenses with International Business Machines (IMB), a company that had accused the social network in November, on the eve of the successful Initial Public Offer (OPI, for its Spanish acronym), of violating three patents.
Twitter is following the footsteps of Facebook, which also faced similar accusations before their IPO in 2012. The world’s largest social network has been buying numerous patents and acquiring intellectual property of technology from Microsoft and IBM.
“The acquisition of IBM’s patent and the license agreement has provided an increased intellectual property protection and gives us freedom of action to innovate for the sake of those who use our services,” said legal director of Twitter, Ben Lee, through a joint statement with IBM.
