On Monday, US Chamber of Commerce, sent a letter to members of Congress. This influential group which brings together more than three million American companies asked the US Congress to consider renewal the Andean System tariff preferences (ATPDEA). A submission made to it each year.
The letter suggests in Ecuador the environment isn´t suitable for investment, disrespect for the law and private property. All this doubts raises about whether authorities country respect the Ecuador´s law.
Therefore this commercial organization asked the U.S. legislature to consider whether Ecuador qualify to enter the ATPDEA. Meanwhile Chamber of Commerce´s letter ask the U.S. Congress to extend those benefits to Peru and Colombia.
This letter comes after the government Rafael Correa said it will close its investment protection treaty with the U.S., its main commercial partner. In mid-June Ecuador expressed its wish the ATPDEA is renewed at least four years.
