The City of Knowledge or University of Yachay will open its classrooms in the first quarter of 2014, according to the announcement by Hector Rodriguez, manager of the public company administration.
The regime has developed the construction of this complex in Urcuqui, Imbabura, as one of the foundations for a new “production matrix”. This entity will combine industry, research and academics.
According to Rodriguez they have careers as life sciences, Nanosciences, Renewable Energy, New Technologies of Information and petrochemicals, among others. He added that he established contacts with major research centers in the United States and Europe for endorsing conventions that allow academic subjects and encourage the exchange of teachers.
The scheme provides that Yachay invests $ 200 million annually, by the way of infrastructure, equipment and wages. A few months after the inauguration of this project and there are people who already question it.
As is the case of the President of the Ecuadorian Network of Universities for Research and Graduate Studies (REDU), Alfonso Espinosa, who does not share state policy to focus its efforts on a single type of research. “We must strengthen the national research system (as such),” said Espinosa.
