USD 878.3 million in subsidies to the social area

This year, the government will increase the amount allocated to grants to comply with the Plan Toda Una Vida (Plan for a Lifetime Plan for its Spanish name) and other social programs offered during the election campaign.
The 2017 Budget contemplates an allocation of USD 878.3 million for nine social grants. The figure represents an increase of 27% over the one assigned for last year (USD 694.3 million).
Increase the economic aid for families under circumstances of extreme poverty and the elderly living in vulnerable conditions, houses for homeless people, among others.
In an economically difficult year, the main challenge will be to get financing to sustain these state aid. The Technical Secretary of the Toda Una Vida Plan, Irina Cabezas, explained that the Government will prioritize public spending to redirect resources to the social programs. In addition, the main program of the Government, Casa para Todos (House for All for its Spanish name), will count on the excess liquidity of the Central Bank of Ecuador. (I)
