Vehicle entrance from Manta rose 96%

Between January and July, 61,439 motor vehicles entered the port of Manta, 96% more than in the same period of 2017, when 31,276 arrived.

These figures are in contrast with the arrival of cargo ships to Manta in 2016, where only 14,000 vehicles descended on this Manabi port, according to Roberto Salazar, president of Manta Port Terminals (TPM), created by the Agunsa company, concessionaire of the terminal mantense.

Two reasons motivated two years ago that the number of car rentals was extremely low in relation to what was obtained in 2017 (45,000 cars arrived in the whole year) and for 2018 (the arrival of more than 65,000 cars is projected). ), and these are the restriction through import quotas and the earthquake that affected the international docks.

Now brands like Hyundai, Ford, Mazda and others not only disembark their vehicles in this port, but use it to transfer to other countries.

This is also reflected in the increase in metric tons (t) of fishing, since between January and July 2017, 139,531 t were mobilized by this port, and in the same period of 2018, 184,476 t were moved.

The control of the port at the hands of TPM has been maintained since March 2016, and after 16 months, repairs and repowering have been projected, such as dredging, which allowed a draft of 13 meters at low tide, allowing access to boats up to 340 meters long.

“At the moment we have invested close to $ 31 million, within the first phase that includes repairs for the earthquake, repowering of the facilities, development of new infrastructure, equipment and port security (…) and in this way the shipping companies and importers see an optimal business scheme, “explained Salazar.

Within the new infrastructure, the cruise ship terminal of 1,300 square meters is contemplated at a cost of $ 2 million and with a 75% advance, which is expected to be inaugurated in October. The facilities will also be used for fairs and other events.

Every year, Manta receives 25,000 cruise passengers from various countries, an activity that has been registered in this city since 1997 and runs from October to May.

National Convention

Among the first events of the new Cruise Passenger Terminal, which is scheduled to open in October, is the Discover Fest, the Ecuadorian Tourist and Gastronomic Fair 2018, which will take place from November 15 to 18, within the framework of the First National Convention of Tourism of Ecuador, which will be organized by the company Export World & Business and several public and private entities, for which they signed an agreement of inter-institutional support.
