Vera Requested to Revoke the Change of Date
Alembert Vera, attorney of the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, revealed that he had requested to revoke the document that asked to change the hearing date of newspaper El Universo for October 4.
Vera pointed out that several irregularities were found in the document, like a request of the accused Emilio Palacio, who asked to divide the hearing in two parts. The attorney also rejected the decision of the Second Criminal Chamber, saying that the new judge, Helen Mantilla, started to work on the case since September 2.
Vera also dismissed the report of technical experts regarding the hard drive of the computer from the Courthouse 15º of Guayas that judge Juan Paredes used to dictate the sentence against the newspaper. The attorney added that such investigation must be made only within the Judiciary Council members. (AV)
