The United States Embassy in Ecuador announced that Ecuadorians can apply for the Diversity Visa program, known as the ‘visa lottery’, starting October 4, 2023.
The United States Office of Consular Affairs released the instructions for the new call for the Diversity Visa Program, known as the ‘visa lottery’.
Registration for Ecuadorians was enabled this October 4, 2023, announced the United States Embassy in Ecuador.
Ecuador is once again among the countries whose citizens are eligible for this program, known as the ‘visa lottery ‘.
Registration for the visa lottery will begin on October 4 and will end on November 7. The only way to apply is through the official web platform , recalled the Office of Consular Affairs.
Registration has no cost and the selection is completely random, detailed the government entity.
In 2022, this program allowed 206 Ecuadorians to obtain an immigrant visa to reside permanently in the United States.
The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program offers a limited number of visas (approximately 55,000) each year to people who meet certain requirements, including:
- Be a citizen of a country with a low immigration rate to the US.
- Have 12 years of primary and secondary education or its equivalent.
- Have at least two years of work experience, within the last five years, in an eligible occupation.
Not eligible for the ‘visa lottery’
Most countries are eligible for this program, because the objective is to diversify the presence of immigrants.
But there are countries that are excluded because more than 50,000 citizens of that nationality have emigrated to the United States in the last five years. In America they are the following:
- Colombia
- Dominican Republic
- The Savior
- Brazil
- Canada
- Haiti
- Honduras
- Mexico
- Jamaica
- Venezuela
The Diversity Visa Program is one of the legal avenues that the United States offers for those who wish to migrate to that country.
In fiscal year 2023, which in the United States runs from October to September, 5,287 Ecuadorians obtained an immigrant visa, that is, one that allows them to reside permanently in that country.
Most of the visas were given to people who have family members who are already US citizens, such as children, parents and spouses.
