Posted On 23 Aug 2018

Ecuadornews:

Xavier Lazo Guerrero was appointed by the President of the Republic. This is the fourth official to occupy the position in 15 months of Government. In social networks they congratulate the decision.

A banana producer is the new Minister of Agriculture since Tuesday, August 21 last. It is about Xavier Enrique Lazo Guerrero. Coming from a traditional Guayaquil family, the agronomist with a degree in Agricultural Sciences and Management of Natural Resources from the EARTH University of Costa Rica is an expert in the field of agriculture.

The President of the Republic officially made his appointment through Executive Decree 487. The current official replaces Mariuxi Gómez Torres, who resigned after a scandal spread on social networks, hence the Head of State apologized to the peasants from the country.

The new Minister is nephew of Rafael Guerrero Valenzuela, radio broadcaster, former mayor of Guayaquil and former governor of Guayas. In the Lazo service sheet, it highlights its link with organic agriculture and under that modality sows bananas. Its market is northern Europe, through the Uurú Banane company.

The Ecuador Pymes page highlights that Lazo is registered in the Internal Revenue Service as a natural person since January 2007. It has a medium-sized SME dedicated to the cultivation of bananas, which is located in Guayaquil – El Morro.

The Don Vito Bananas page published that Lazo is a professional with a long experience in the field: “expert in farm management for export and management of natural resources, according to Strategies of Development and Sustainable Planning”.

In addition, he is awarded knowledge in Development and Production of Integrated Systems of Agriculture and Forestry, based on principles of Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Experience in the Development and Research of Organic Production Systems and export of tropical crops, with knowledge in Marketing of agricultural products with ecological approach

The employees of the State portfolio until this Wednesday, August 22, did not have a clear profile of their new owner. Those who do know are producers and exporters of the main export fruit of the country.

The president of the Association of Exporters of Bananas of Ecuador (AEBE), Eduardo Ledesma, celebrated the appointment of the official. “I believe that the banana sector will be promoted to its rightful place by fulfilling goals and objectives that allow new investments, currencies and jobs,” Ledesma told EL TELÉGRAFO.

He stressed that “he will know what must be done” and pledged his support. According to Última Hora, Lazo said that “we will work with a particular emphasis on young people returning to the countryside, to transform and modernize it. We must rescue the value of the land and the peasant family “.

Enrique García, executive director of the Chamber of Agriculture Zone 11, is confident that Minister Lazo will fully serve the country’s agricultural sector. Additionally, Lazo was the general manager of Cluzon S.A., a company that produces and exports organic bananas; consultant in sustainable agriculture; member of Naturland, German Association of Organic Agriculture; and in the firm Ekoban (Dominican Republic).

He was also technical advisor to groups of organic banana producers. (I)
