Yoani Sanchez: Office in SIP will give and avoid problems
She is aware that her problems with the government will intensify, but also believes that her decision to accept the regional vice president of the Commission on Freedom of Speech and Press of the Inter American Press Society (SIP for its Spanish acronym), can “open a way to have a press worthy of legal, professional and ethical respect. “So explains Yoani Sanchez, Cuban philologist and journalist, in an interview with Hoy newspaper.

Yoani Sanchez is a Cuban journalist, known worldwide for her blog Generation Y, which makes a critical account of the reality of her country, despite Raul Castro’s government harassment.
Sanchez, famous for its disagreements with the government of her country, as well as for her blog Generation Y, estimated that her appointment may favor press freedom in Cuba. “I have the impression that we are committed to change as a society, in which I want to participate from journalism” she says, and though she admits she is “an insular prey and that the immigration reform coming into effect from next January 14 keep her in the list of those who are condemned to immobility,” says she will participate in the meetings of the SIP “virtually or physically, and if not, my reports will travel, which is the important thing.” (MZ)
