ZOCO proposes alternative ways to buy Ecuadorian art
Ecuadornews:

As part of the Fifth Ibero-American Meeting of Art, Work and Economy (5EIATE), the second edition of ZOCO will be held until October 27, a social experiment in the acquisition of art that aims to encourage collecting through alternative economies that do not depend exclusively on monetary exchange.
This project works like a barter. Any person interested in acquiring a work may offer a quantity of money or an equivalent in goods or services, depending on the requirements of the artist.
Those who participate in this edition, whose works are exhibited in Arte Actual de la Flacso, are Angélica Alomoto, Paula Arias, Gabriel Arroyo, Pablo Gamboa, Sol Gómez, Dayuma Guayasamín, Larissa Marangoni, Isadora Romero, Katya Romero, Glenda Rosero, Elsye Suquilanda , Luigi Stornaiolo, Miguel Varea, Mo Vásquez and Polett Zapata.
ZOCO exhibits works by artists of long, medium and emerging trajectory. “Through this free exchange between two people who mutually accept this transaction, we propose to think and practice alternatives to the market economy and thus promote social relations, cooperation, reciprocity and the exercise of complementary economies and alternative markets,” comment the organizers of the meeting.
The 5EIATE is called Doméstika and will address the problems that arise from the relationship between art, work and economics from the perspective of feminism. To this end, workshops and dialogue tables will be held.
The first will be on Tuesday, October 23, at 2:30 p.m., which will address feminist economies and work in art. Cristina Vega Solís, Alejandra Santillana Ortiz, Gabriela Montalvo and María Fernanda Troya will participate in this table.
The two remaining tables will be held that same day at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The next day will be the workshop “A look at feminist economics: sustainability of life vs. market “, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., under the direction of Gabriela Montalvo and Amparo Armas. (I)
