1.2 million Iraqis have been displaced by internal conflict
The United Nations determined that 1.2 million Iraqis have left their homes because of the conflict in that country.
Valerie Amos, Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement feeling “extremely concerned about the fate of those displaced” due to the situation that continues to worsen, and warned of the danger by the outbreak of infectious diseases.
“Families urgently need water, food, shelter, health, sanitation and protection from violence. Children are especially vulnerable to the onset of disease and malnutrition,” she said.
In this context, Amos thanked the Saudi contribution of $ 500 million to meet the humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people and expressed confidence that there are other similar donations due to the serious difficulties that is having the UN to obtain the necessary funds.
