The automotive sector reached the best monthly sale of the pandemic so far in September and has already surpassed even the best month of 2019.
Data from the Ecuadorian Association of Automotive Companies of Ecuador (Aeade) refer that September sales reached 12,135 new vehicles.
That figure represents the best placement in the past 17 months since COVID-19 began. The highest that had been reached in this period was 10,779 last June.
For the sector, sales in September of this year slightly exceeded the levels of July 2019, when 12,052 units were sold.
In September, light vehicles showed a higher year-on-year growth than commercial vehicles, 58% and 32%, respectively. Compared to the previous month (August 2021), light and commercial vehicles registered a growth of 16% and 23%, respectively.
Within the segment of light vehicles, vans registered the highest year-on-year growth, 47% higher than that registered in the same month of the previous year, according to data from the automotive union.
While the van segment registered the highest year-on-year growth (43%) among commercial vehicles. On the other hand, trucks presented the highest monthly growth of 29%. The bus segment shows a decrease both monthly and interannual, 12% in both cases.
As a percentage, new vehicle sales for September 2021 represent a year-on-year growth of 40% compared to the same month in 2020 and a monthly growth of 16% compared to the previous month (August 2021). In the accumulated January-September growth of 54% is reported.

In the accumulated total, the sales of new vehicles totaled 88,165 units, which already exceeds all the units of last year, which were 85,818.
At the brand level, Chevrolet, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and Great Wall are the brands that have placed the most units so far this year. (I)
