20% of motocycle pieces and parts shall be national until 2015
Until June 2015, 20% of parts and pieces of domestic manufacturing will be incorporated in the motorcycles assemblage in Ecuador, in compliance with Ministerial Decree 14-264 of July 22.
“The general level of local content of all types of assembled goods is 5% and it will be gradually increased,” said Alexis Valencia, Secretary of Industrial Development of the Ministry of Industries and Productivity (MIPRO for its Spanish acronym).
In this process will support the Association of Motorcycle Assemblers of Ecuador (Aeemae for its Spanish acronym) which brings together 12 brands that cater 70% of the national market.
The goal is to develop electrical components, plastics, metal, seats and exhaust systems. According to Oswaldo Landázuri, President of Aeemae, the market will be monitored to avoid losing competitiveness.
