The announcement was made yesterday by Interior Minister, Jose Serrano, who said 208 officers would leave as “bad elements” that were involved in several crimes, before an auditorium full of members of the police and accompanied by almost all members of police leadership.
So Serrano began the deep cleansing of those who used the name of the police, their uniforms and their badges “for their personal profit.”
The removed officers are involved in several crimes: theft, robbery, sexual assault, conspiracy, indecent assault, assault, bribery, extortion, false document forgery, concealing evidence in judicial trials and plagiarism. Were also reported for illegal possession of weapons, evading detention, murder, drug trafficking, kidnapping, embezzlement, attempted murder, among other crimes.
The former officers belonged to police stations in all provinces. Yesterday they surrendered their weapons, badges and uniforms.
