25 Cities of the World Join to Protest Against Chávez
In Caracas, Venezuela, a global march against President Hugo Chávez is being organized. The event organizers are the student movement “Un Mundo sin Mordaza” and over 40 NGOs that are concerned about the direction of Venezuela under the leadership of the “dictator”, how Chávez will be called in the march that will be held on Sunday, 23th of January in Miami New York, Boston, Washington, Los Angeles, Asunción, North Carolina, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Guatemala, Guayaquil, Lima, Managua, Panama City, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo, Tegucigalpa, London, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Sydney, and Vienna.
The march’s aim is to send a “clear message to the world about the great danger that democracy is running at Venezuela, where President Chávez perpetuates in power as a dictator with a simmilar style such as the one that (former Cuban President) Fidel Castro and company have,” said Francisco Portillo, coordinator of American Democracy Watch movement, which is in favor of the motion.
This will be the first time an organized civil society of Venezuela formally declares with one voice that the democratic system is permanently lost in the country.
According to Helene Villalonga, director of the Asociación de Madres Venezolanas en el Exterior (Amavex), “That day Hugo Chávez wiil be declared dictator.”
