40% of trips abroad of assembly members were paid by sponsors
The National Assembly allocated $ 183 791.69 for secondments abroad of legislators and legislative servers during the first quarter. According to the Assembly, this amount represents less than 1% of the budget.
The legislature reported that “much” of shares are not paid by the Ecuadorian State, and the sponsors are the ones who assume the total costs.
During the first half of 2016, the percentage covered by these sponsors was 40% of the total invested by the Assembly for travel abroad. That is $ 73 516.67.
In the current period of the Assembly, from May 2013 to May this year, it has allocated USD 547 457.05 have been allocated for 379 travel of 96 assembly members. The Assembly website does not specify the cost of the air tickets.
