54 Mejia’s students plead guilty for damaging property of others

Estudiantes-Mejia-se-declaran-culpables-daños-bienes-ajenos-protestas-18-septiembre54 of the 60 defendants for participating in the protests last September 18 accepted being part of criminal damage to property of others in the vicinity of the Mejia school.

After an abbreviated trial, the judge of Criminal Guarantees Daniela Mayorga allowed during the trial hearing, the negotiation between the prosecutor Javier Bósquez, students, defense and family members, to reach an agreement for the early release of the involved.

The procedure applied is allowed in the new Penal Code Integral (COIP).

16 involved were also declared by the judge as direct perpetrators of the crime of destruction of property of others and will comply with a sentence of two months imprisonment in the Provisional Detention Center (PDC) and will pay a fine of $ 60 to cover the damages.

Other 38 were identified by the prosecution as accomplices will have a sentence of two months in prison, than a guilty verdict be issued, do community service, no reoffend for two years and pay a fine of $ 60.
