61 media of Ecuador were rated by the national Cordicom
Sixty-one media of Ecuador (34 radio stations, 20 television stations and 7 print media ) were approved by the Council of Regulation and Development of the Information (Cordicom for its Spanish acronym) as of national character. The decision was taken by the plenary of the institution last October 2 in Loja, based on Article 5 and 6 of the Communications Law.
Under the current rule, every meda of national character shall require the figure of the Hearing and Readers Defender.
The Cordicom defined that shall be considered national media, those that provide coverage to more than 30% of the population, those who have a matrix system with more than six repeaters and reach two or more natural regions of the country, and finally, the concessionaires that establish permanent networks of AM, FM and shortwave radio, as well as open television networks.
In the case of the seven print media, regional editions, the periodicity, circulation and the coverage these maintain were taken into consideration.
