78.2% of chickens are bred in poultry farms
A study carried out by the National Institute of statistics and censuses (INEC) notes that according to the survey of surface and continuous agricultural production (ESPAC, for its acronym in spanish) a lot of chickens that are bred and sold in Ecuador are from poultry farms, and just 21.83% are bred in the countryside.
The document also points out that the Sierra has the most important production of chicks and chickens, with 62,33%, also stresses that a small percentage of farmed poultry campuses are destined for self-consumption (505.184), while marketing is the goal of the 98.9% of the production.
This corresponds to 46′ 815.222 chickens, between large and small; and 1’277.720 hens, while in the case of eggs, the greater amount of production is also linked to the companies.
According to the study, 47’431.058 chicken eggs are produced in the country per week, of which 84,52% corresponds to production in poultry farms and the remaining in the countryside.
