Posted On 21 Dec 2010
The tsunami alert declared at Japan’s Ogasawara Islands, in southern Japan, after a violent earthquake of magnitude 7.4 in the Pacific Ocean has been reduced to the level of “simple warning” because the waves do not exceed the 50 inches, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency.
A 7.4 earthquake shook the Pacific Ocean at the southern coast of Japan, reported the local Meteorological Agency as it issued a tsunami alert.
The seism occurred 130 kilometers (80.6 miles) away Chichi Island in the Pacific Ocean. The quake occurred around 17:19 GMT on Tuesday at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). The agency issued a tsunami warning alert for the nearby islands. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
