Correa: Anyone can use the terms ’30s’ and ‘prohibido olvidar’
Posted On 17 Dec 2011
In his Saturday National TV broadcast, the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, said the registration in the Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI) seeks to prevent the “perverted” use of the terms ‘30s‘ and ‘prohibido olvidar‘.“We want to avoid that (’30s’ and ‘prohibido olvidar’) are used for commercial purposes (…) for propaganda in bad faith. (…) Anyone may use the ‘prohibido olvidar’ and ’30s’ terms, but with good faith, ethics and decency. What we’re doing is to prevent such sacred things to be misused, prostituted,” said Correa.
He also denied again any claim to protect the exclusive use of these signs in the election campaign in 2013 and recalled that other phrases that were born as an initiative of the Government have already been registered in the IEPI, including “La patria ya es de todos’.
