Following her visit to Ecuador, the former president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet recognized the progress in gender equality that this country has achieved in recent years.

“No country gets an A+ grade in this matter,” but acknowledged that Ecuador’s efforts deserve to be imitated.

Michelle Bachelet, who has served as Executive Director of UN Women, recognized the important participation of women in Ecuadorian politics. She also said that many of the experiences of this country “can be replicated elsewhere,” and notes that “in every country there are still some discrimination “against women.

This Friday, Bachelet will attend, with the civil society, to a forum on “Women’s Leadership to Strengthen Democracy and the Good Life.” Subsequently, she will sign a cooperation agreement with Venezuelan Alí Rodríguez, new general secretary of Union of South American Nations (UNASUR). And tomorrow, she will visit one of the projects promoted by UN Women in Quitumbe, after departing to Brazil, the second destination for a short tour through South America.
