Madeleine of Sweden married American financier Christopher O’Neill

The young Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who turns 31 today, got married on Saturday June 8th with British-American financier Christopher O’Neill on the Lutheran Chapel of the Royal Palace.

Unlike her sister Victoria, this was a much more intimate ceremony. Featured 500 guests, including members of royal families of Europe and Japan.

The procession had a length of 350 meters and toured the medieval town of Gamla Stan. Later, the newlyweds traveled by carriage on adjacent streets before heading to the castle of Drottningholm in Riddarholmen Island, where they held a banquet.

Madeleine met O’Neill, 38, in New York, while volunteering for the charity World Childhood Foundation

The princess dress was designed by Valentino on silk and organza. The tiara is from the private collection of the Kings and was a gift from his father to his mother for thier tenth wedding anniversary. The wedding march was played by a children’s choir and Marie Fredriksson, lead singer of Roxette performed a song with Peter Joback, star of “Phantom of the Opera”.
