Some doctors claim that foreign physician will be non-specialised
The Secretary of the medical Federation, Carlos Figueroa, clarified that the doctors requested by the Government to replace Ecuadorian physician who leave the country, are not specialists as required.
Last September it was officially reported that 1 000 doctors from Cuba and specialize in family medicine would come to the country. The idea is to partly cover the “urgent” demand for health professionals.
This event takes place once the President Rafael Correa asked the preparation of instructions to include foreign physicians to prompt public health, where doctors leave their offices. He arranged to have distributed the instructions to all embassies in Ecuador, especially to the Spanish-speaking.
On doctors who already resigned, Correa said: “they are free to do what they believe most suitable, and that if want to resign, do it (…) We are not going to yield to the strength and arrogance (…) First I’m go home rather than yield to force.”
