Formation of the new European Commission will be delayed
Jean-Claude Juncker, President-elect of the European Commission (EC), will delay the formation of the new European Commission if it does not reach a minimum number of women within the next Executive, said today his spokeswoman Natasha Bertaud.
“There may be delays in the formation of new European Commission if it does not reach a minimum of gender balance,” said Bertraud.
The European Parliament has said through its president, Martin Schulz that will not give its approval to a Commission with fewer women than the current one, which has nine. In addition, the agency must pass hearings to new proposed commissioners of binding form.
“Mr Juncker has made it clear on numerous occasions that … a commission with only two or three women would not be legitimate or credible, and that he will not accept this,” added the spokesman.
This midnight is the deadline for the EU countries submit their candidate or candidates to join the EU executive.
