Ecuador surpasses goal of poverty by incomes at a 25.6%

Ecuador exceeded the goal of reduction of poverty measured by incomes, considering that in 2013 the objective was to bring it down to 26.3%, but it reached the 25.6%. This result allows that the projection for 2017 is down to 20%, President Rafael Correa said during his latest weekly address.

The President revised some goals of the social sector that are in the National Plan for Good Living (PNBV for its Spanish acronym) 2013-2017 and highlighted the achievements in eradicating “extreme poverty.”

Correa also analyzed the success in the reduction of the income gap between the richest 10% and poorest 10% of the population. The distance was 41.7 times the income at the beginning of this administration. Now it is 24.2 times. It is expected that this gap is 20 times in 2017.
